One of the finest examples of architectural design by Charles Correa, this ‘campus within campus’ is located in the premises of Pune University. Among the thickly populated ‘Patangi’ trees and colonial structures, the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) creates its own identity owing to its contemporary buildings built around a series of ‘theme’ courtyards.

The landscape design has to play a supportive role with the help of appropriate selection of plant material and its placement in order to enhance the visual as well as the spatial quality of the iconic courtyards. At the same time, it also has to maintain the environmental comfort level as Pune experiences hotter summers due to the continuous loss of its green cover.
