The proposal for upgradation of Mumbai’s international Air terminal, gave impetus for building a number of luxury grade Hotels in the vicinity. Hotel Hyatt Regency, Mumbai was one such project catering principally the business traveller.
The Landscape design for a city hotel like this is always a challenging job. The astronomical land costs prevailing in the metropolis afford the plot size just enough for the building block and the mandatory open spaces. Vehicular parking is accommodated in the multi-level basements which spread defiantly in the open spaces leaving little scope for large size planting.
Apart from the visual beauty, the landscape of the hotel is also expected to participate in the revenue earning process. Swimming pool, pool decks, outdoor banquets, open air entertainment, active recreation such as jogging, tennis and other games become features of attraction to the guests.
It thus, became necessary to resort to a combination of landscape configurations suiting each location. It is bold and curvilinear at the main drive-way and the front garden, formal and stylized in front of meeting rooms, informal and relaxed at the swimming pool courtyard. A thread of subtle formalism binds this design diversity.
